Are you struggling with your child's behavior or emotional well-being? Are you concerned about your child's development? Are you worried about the impact of a recent stressor such as a divorce, the loss of a loved one, bullying, or the birth of a new sibling? These are all common life stressors and sometimes we need help to find new strategies to cope.
My work with children involves getting to know what's happening internally with your child. Play is the child’s natural form of communication. During play, children reveal unconscious fears, worries, thoughts, and wishes. The toys are the child’s words. During the play session the therapist observes patterns or themes that emerge. Therapist and caregiver then work together in the process of healing. The therapist can help children learn more helpful behaviors, understand their emotions, and gain insight about resolving inner conflicts.
Adolescents are going through a period of significant growth and development, both physically and emotionally. I adapt therapeutic approaches to meet their unique needs.
I can help with a variety of issues:
Separate sessions for the parents are also an important part of the child's treatment. Sessions are usually scheduled every other month to provide the parents with a place to talk about the challenges of being a parent and especially the difficulties of parenting their child.
